John Liggett had just buried his wife and was struggling to get on with life. His grandson Grant seemed rudderless, with no sense of direction, purpose or sense of responsibility. When Grant is expelled from school for two weeks the two are forced to spend that time together. To pass that time, they decide to restore the old family tractor that has been rotting away in the back of John's garage.
When Grant won't talk about what happened at school, John turns to an old friend to learn that there is much more to Grant than he had imagined. Over the course of their two weeks the men restore much more than an old tractor.

This book is so far removed from what I expected. One line in the book description, as well as the referral source, had led to an idea of what to expect. It wasn't! But I'm not about to spoil things and tell you why.I will tell you to expect some wonderful characters who I wish were a part of my life. They had or developed strong relationships and convictions. Some started with misconceptions, but learned lessons of courage and grace.
For me this was a two or three hankie novel, although the cold I am fighting may have impacted that count. I am a bit of a grammar stickler, so I will mention one word that bothered me: check was in a place that called out for cheek. I am very well aware that is a minor proofreading issue, I just thought I'd mention it so it could be fixed. Otherwise the book was clearly very lovingly created.
Take a chance on this one, especially if you are in the mood for a lovely story, well written, that fills you up with warmth and a reminder that the world is still full of good people.

The Tractor edition by Steven Wilkens Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
We need more books like this. Families are important. It's refreshing to read a book from an author who understands this. This book is a must read whether you are a teenager or a mature adult.
I loved the story, the faith and message of doing things right. John is a man any man should aspire to be.
Its an OK book - some of the tech details don't quite ring true, but a good story.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Grant seemed troubled at the start of the book. Shows how things are not always as they seem. Very enjoyable book.
Not what I expected, but a touching sweet book that touches all the old school values. A fun read. A book that makes you think.
This book grabs you from the very beginning, you feel like you are there with them, and when you stop reading you find yourself wanting to go back to visit with the family as soon as you can! I would absolutely recommend this, its a great, easy read! Love it!
This is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Although I don't repair tractors, after reading this, I think I could figure it out. I liked the gentle plot and the people in it. Delightful family and friends. Will look forward to reading more of this author's writing.
